Useful phrases in case of an emergency in Germany

Travelling on Local Trains and Buses:

In the Taunus area you can buy train and bus tickets in several places. The company who operates the system is called RMV (Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund - the umbrella transport system in the region). You can buy tickets in the following places:
i) on the bus (cash cards can be used on VGF buses)
ii) from ticket machines at all railway stations and bus stations
iii) from VGF (Verkehrsgeschellschaft Frankfurt am Main - local service provider) sales outlets.

You must have a valid ticket before commencing your journey (penalty of DM 60.00) and there are regular checks made by inspectors on the transport. You can buy weekly, monthly or annual season tickets, which come with various advantages such as: unlimited number of journeys, special deals for free travel in the evenings and weekends for the rest of the family and reduced costs. If there is a group of people from 3 to 5 travelling together you can purchase a daily group travel ticket which covers as many journeys as you like within the zone(s) paid for during the day of validation.

The most commonly used way is to use the ticket machine when there is one:

(1) short hop destinations in Frankfurt
(2) RMV destinations
(3) colour screen display
(4) flag language selection button

(5) coin slot
(6) plus button for several tickets
(7) correction button to change destination or restart entry
(8) numeric keypad for destination code
(9) ticket type selection button (adult or child)
(10) fast select button for travel within Frankfurt
(11) bank note acceptance/dispensing point (most machines accept notes up to DM 100)
(12) ticket dispenser/change dispensing
(13) slot for cash card (if machine has function)
(14) machine number

For travel in Frankfurt and to the airport:

Use the Fast select buttons at (10). Pay the amount displayed. (5), (11), (13). Remove ticket (and change if applicable) at (12).

For travel to and from Frankfurt from other destinations:

Locate your destination on the destiantion index at (2). Enter the (2) or (4) digit code using the numeric keypad (8). Choose the type of ticket required (adult or child) at (9) . Pay the amount displayed. (5), (11), (13). Remove ticket (and change if applicable) at (12).

Verkehrsmuseum (Transport Museum)

The transport museum is at Rheinlandstraße 133 in Frankfurt. It is open on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 10am to 6pm.

Have a ride on the historic Ebbelwei-Expreß tram car and visit many tourist attractions in Frankfurt while enjoying a glass of applewine, apple juice or mineral water with pretzels.

You can usually carry your bike at no extra cost on all VGF vehicles, except for during the rush hours on working days. You can also roll on/roll off with your child's buggy and many stations provide lifts. There are night buses running in Frankfurt during the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings.
